On the way we went to see Montezuma’s Cliff dwellings National monument. You can see below they beautiful pictures we took driving there. Along the way we went by the red mountain secret wilderness area. It took 30 minutes to get through the “small” town of Sedona to get to the scenic historic route 89 A which is included in the National Geographic great scenic highways and byways. It was another beautiful, “boring” ride until we got to Sedona and we hit “tourist city”. In the morning we got up and headed out toward Sedona on another historic route 89A. We decided to spend the night in Payson and found a neat campground just outside of town. It was a long and boring drive but the scenery was beautiful. However, a forest fire had closed Arizona 88 so we had to backtrack and find a way to get to the town of Payson on Arizona 87. From there we were going to drive on historic route 88 through Tortilla Flat and Superstition Mountain. We broke camp about 10 o’clock on the 20th and headed toward Phoenix on US 77 which would take us to Apache junction.
